John H. Thomas Ledgers

Item descriptions

Two ledgers loaned by Mrs. Marge Stevens to Ginger Doyel from November 13-28, 2008 and April 2010. Both are hardback, covered in cloth, and measure 6 x 16 inches. The first contains 847 pages, dates from January 1878 to December 1880, and is 4.5 inches deep. The second contains 575 pages, dates from December 1880 to December 1883, and is 3 inches deep. The ledgers list the purchases made at what was John H. Thomas's store (now occupied by Stevens Hardware at the corner of Dock and Randall Streets) and include the transaction date, buyer's name, items purchased, and their cost. Each ledger page contains approximately 10-16 entries.
